This is a hands-on position requiring a technically strong engineer who is confident taking ownership of the engineering department, identifying and resolving faults, and maintaining high standards of preventative maintenance.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, practical and solution-focused, with the judgement to keep the vessel operational throughout a busy season. The ideal candidate will be confident assessing technical issues, implementing safe and effective solutions where appropriate, and planning non-urgent works around the vessel’s scheduled yard periods rather than unnecessarily disrupting the programme.
Clear communication with the Captain and wider crew is important, particularly when explaining technical or operational matters.
The engineering department is a team of two, with the Chief Engineer working alongside a Second Engineer. Both engineers are expected to contribute beyond the engine room when required, including supporting the deck team during busy guest trips.
Social fit is particularly important for this position. Technical ability alone will not be enough.
The ideal candidate will be approachable, grounded and socially comfortable, with a calm and constructive manner under pressure. They should enjoy being part of the wider crew and have a cooperative attitude towards responsibilities outside the engineering department.
We are looking for someone who understands that every department contributes to the guest experience and is genuinely happy to work as part of the wider crew. The engineering team has a cooperative relationship with deck and will lend a hand during guest trips when required.
A practical, solution-focused attitude, strong communication skills and the ability to integrate well with the crew are essential. The vessel is looking for someone interested in a stable, long-term position.
